our story....

Fredrick Bell, is a proud United States Army Veteran and an Alaskan Native from the Tlingit Tribe. His Tlingit name is Xá.naax' and he is from Xutsnoowú Kwáan: the Brown Bear Fort, in Angoon, Alaska. He is of the Raven Moiety, a Deisheetaan (Beaver) from the Yéil S’aagi Hít (Raven's Bones House).

Michelle (Molly) Calvin was raised in Washington State and moved to SE Alaska in 2001 for work. Molly was adopted into the Tlingit Tribe in 2010. Her Tlingit name is Ah Dah Néik. Her Tlingit family is from XUNAA KWÁAN a.k.a. KÁAWU: Hoonah, AK or People From the Direction of the Northwind. She is from the Eagle Moiety, a Wooshkeetaan (Shark) from the Noow Hít (Fort House).

Molly became involved in the native community through her volunteer work and in 2008 was honored to be invited to Paddle to Celebration from Hoonah, AK to Juneau, AK. This is where she first met Fred. In 2010, Fred and Molly participated in the Paddle to Celebration this time from Angoon, AK to Juneau, AK. A few months later they traveled to Washington State for the Intertribal Canoe Journey Paddle to the Beginning of the World (Makah) in Neah Bay, WA.

This was a life changing event for both Molly and Fred and the place where they cemented their deep friendship. They married in Juneau, AK in 2014.

The canoe life and living a clean and healthy lifestyle are an important part of their lives.

Beaver Tales Coffee LLC is Native/Veteran Owned coffee roaster based in La Conner, WA.

The name Beaver Tales comes from Fred’s Tribal brothers and he, traveling on Canoe Journey. When they are all together they tell stories, most of them true, some not so. But all in fun.

Coffee Roasting came to Fred in a dream. He conducted research and developed his business plan and in July of 2019 he launched the business vending at Intertribal Canoe Journey Paddle to Lummi.

Our coffee is roasted fresh in small batches weekly, packaged and sealed for each customer with care. We are an online business shipping to customers nationally.

If you would like to set up a standing order, we can do that. Auto-ship and invoicing is available for larger customers.

We look forward to working with you, thank you for giving us a try!
